Abstract

Understanding eddy losses through pipe fittings is significant. Pipe fittings are widely used and essential in any piping system. Moreover, nano-fluids are primarily used for their enhanced thermal properties as coolants in heat transfer equipment such as heat exchangers, electronic cooling system (such as flat plate) and radiators. In the present work, the behavior of nano-fluid flow through a net of many pipe fittings (Straight pipes, Elbows, Tees, strainer and valves) will be studied experimentally and numerically. The flow in this net is circulated using a centrifugal pump with 1 hp variable speed electric motor. Under various operating situations, the effects of nano-fluid types (Aluminum Oxide, Copper oxide and zinc Oxide ), concentrations (0.2%, 0.4%, 0.6%, 0.8% and 1%), and temperatures up to (50o C) were taken into account. Pressure measurements from the experimental setup will help to calculate losses factor for eddy and friction losses through pipe fittings. Those who operate in the nano-fluids in piping systems can benefit from the study’s findings.
